MOVIE REVIEW: 20 ONCE AGAIN! (Leste Chen, 2015)

Good production values, but it lacked the humor and warmth of the Korean and Pinoy versions. Although I liked the distinct Chinese touches (another pivotal mahjong scene!), that (changed) ending left much to be desired.

MOVIE REVIEW: TULLY (Jason Reitman, 2018)

For all the mothers who have sacrificed their physical, mental, and emotional states and have given up their hopes and dreams just to raise their usually unappreciative kids.

For all the husbands who think that being a good provider is sufficient enough to fulfill their role as fathers.

For all the kids who never understood the meaning of gratitude and maternal love except during Mother’s Day.

(Sad that a fully committed Charlize Theron’s not getting much Oscar buzz for her amazing work here.)

UNDER THE SKIN (Jonathan Glazer, 2013)

Most disturbing way to learn more about women in society and that beauty is only skin deep.

Another slow-burning mood piece that will definitely polarize its audience. You’ll either find it boring and plotless or engaging and a big mindfuck. Guess which side I’m on.

MOVIE REVIEW: IF I STAY (R.J. Cutler, 2014)

My notes on If I Stay:

1. Chloe Grace Moretz is so much better than this movie. Can we say that an actress is actually overqualified for a role?

2. Mireille Enos is so much better than this movie. Can we say that an actress is actually underutilized in a movie? Watch the first season of The Killing instead.

3. The guy who played opposite Chloe was such a bad actor that I didn’t even bother to Google his name.

4. The premise of this film reminded me a bit of The Lovely Bones. I hated that film adaptation because I really loved the book. Should I bother reading this one?

5. Everyone knows that I’m a cryer. I cry even when there’s no reason to cry. I did not cry one bit in this one. Maybe The Fault in Our Stars desensitized me already. All the girls in the theater were sobbing their eyes out, though.

6. The soggy, cheesy, diabetes-inducing love story almost made my eyes roll out of their sockets.

She gets her hand stung by a bee and he sucks the stinger out in front of her parents. This is a young girl’s fantasy? Eww.

7. If you force your boyfriend to watch this chick flick, don’t be surprised if you’re single after.

8. It was so bad that it reached a point where I was wishing she’d just die already. I’m going straight to hell.

Very Wattpad Presents ito ha. Yung mga elements na medyo iffy ako sa Your Name eh dinoble pa lalo dito. Ramdam mo na gusto talaga ma-replicate ang success nun but they ended up with an inferior version.

Nyek! Mas cheesy pa siya sa Big Mac.

MOVIE REVIEW: READY OR NOT (Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett, 2019)

Minsan talaga napapaisip ako ano ginagawa ng mga alta kapag sobrang bored sila. Lalo na if they already (literally) sold their souls to the devil. At least meron na akong idea after this.

And this Samara Weaving girl is a star. Sana gumawa siya ng movie with Margot Robbie where they play twin assassins. Ang saya siguro nun.

Rating: ★★★★☆

MOVIE REVIEW: KICK-ASS 2 (Jeff Wadlow, 2013)

It was superficially fun, very much like a teen fantasy. I’d watch Chloe Grace Moretz in anything.

Kick-Ass 2 was entertaining enough even if I was completely turned off by the extreme violence in a comic book movie populated with kids.

Chloe Grace Moretz looked gorgeous and her Mean Girls-ish storyline was the perfect way to prep for the upcoming Carrie remake.
