Even in our country where people predominantly still think that women get what they deserve (and that they had it coming) because of how they dress, it’s no wonder that sexual abuse victims would rather keep silent than kick the shit out of the real villains.

This Spotlight-like documentary that chronicled the disgusting cover-up made by USA Gymnastics to protect a pedophile in their organization was an incredibly tough watch. I used to really love gymnastics, probably the only Olympic event that I eagerly anticipated. I was one of the millions that cheered when Kerri Strug made that historic vault despite of an injured ankle. Finally knowing all the behind the scenes that led up to that moment broke my heart even more.

When all of the victims bravely stood and spoke before their abuser and called him out for being the monster that he was, I just couldn’t control my emotions. We really need to protect our kids. We really need to end victim-blaming. And most importantly, we really need to stop enabling these deplorables.

Your move, Viva Management.
